Meet Tim: From Corporate to Personal

When you’re choosing a financial adviser, it’s not just about qualifications or strategies—it’s about trust, connection, and knowing the person in your corner truly understands what matters to you.

Last month, we introduced Sara, the engine room behind Moore Financial Advice. This month, it’s time to turn the spotlight to Tim—Principal Financial Adviser, Co-founder and the person working closely with clients to help them make confident financial decisions.

Q & A with Tim

Q: For those who haven’t met you yet—who is Tim Moore in a nutshell?

I’m a financial adviser who genuinely enjoys helping people make sense of their finances and feel more confident about their future. I’ve spent over 20 years in the industry, and what’s kept me passionate the whole time is the impact good advice can have on people’s lives.

Outside of work, I’m a husband, a dad, and someone who enjoys staying active—whether that’s getting out for a run, kicking a ball around with our son, or supporting the many community clubs our family belongs to.

Q: What does a typical week look like for you at Moore Financial Advice?

My favourite part of the week sees a lot of my time spent meeting with clients—both new and existing—working through their goals, answering questions, and helping them make decisions. Watching them enjoy the outcomes of our interactions is what drives my passion for what I do. There is nothing better than helping a client retire, buy their dream caravan or contribute to their grandchildren’s financial future. It’s truly a privilege to be part of the many milestones I see play out.

Behind the scenes, there’s also a lot of strategy work, research, and collaboration with other professionals like accountants and lawyers to make sure we’re delivering well-rounded advice.

Q: You spent over two decades in a large corporate environment—what did that experience teach you?

It gave me a really strong technical foundation and exposure to a wide range of client scenarios, which I’m incredibly grateful for.

At the same time, it also showed me where things can sometimes fall short—particularly when advice becomes more process-driven than people-focused. That experience played a big role in shaping how I wanted to do things differently.

Q: What made you decide to step away and start your own business?

It ultimately came down to wanting to provide a more personal, tailored experience for clients.

I wanted to build a business where relationships come first, where clients aren’t just a number, and where we have the flexibility to truly act in their best interests without being constrained by a large corporate structure.

There wasn’t one single moment—it was more a growing realisation that there was a better way to deliver advice.

Q: What does “great financial advice” look like to you?

Great advice is about clarity and confidence.

It’s not just about having a technically sound strategy—it’s about making sure clients understand what’s being recommended, why it matters, and how it fits into their life.

If a client walks away feeling clearer, more in control, and confident about their next steps, that’s a great outcome.

Q: What do you think clients value most when working with an adviser?

Trust and consistency.

Clients want to know that you’re in their corner, not just at the start, but over the long term. Life changes, goals evolve, and having someone there to guide you through those changes is incredibly valuable. Having things explained in a clear, concise and ‘easy to understand’ way is also something clients value.

Q: What is something about Moore Financial Advice people may be surprised to learn?

Whilst we are based in Brisbane and service the south-east corner of Queensland in person, we are not geographically limited by where a client resides. By that I mean, we can support anyone with advice needs because our processes are 100% remote. We have clients in numerous parts of regional Queensland and also some in Sydney. I make sure I am up to date with the latest tech offerings in our industry so that geography doesn’t limit someone’s options of working with us. The in-person contact is a crucial part of a relationship to me. I often visit the locations where I have remote clients to touch base in person when I can.

Q: What’s something you do differently compared to larger firms?

I’d say it’s the level of personalisation and ongoing connection.

We take the time to really understand what matters to each client and build strategies around that—not the other way around. And because we’re a smaller, family-run business, clients deal directly with us every time, which helps build stronger, more meaningful relationships. I view my clients as an extension of my own family and I care for them that way too.

Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing the difference it makes in people’s lives.

Whether it’s helping someone feel comfortable about retiring, reducing financial stress, or just giving them clarity around their situation—it’s those moments where you can see the impacts that make it all worthwhile. I know I’ve said it before, but it truly is a privilege to get to do this every day.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you find yourself giving most often?

Don’t put it off or be embarrassed to seek help.

A lot of people delay making financial decisions because they’re unsure or feel like they need to have everything figured out first. Sadly, discussing finances is often seen as taboo. The reality is, getting started and having a conversation is often the hardest part—and the most important.

Q: What does a perfect weekend look like for you?

Something fairly simple— I’m always supporting the many sports our son is involved in. I do love a good coffee and also try to fit in a long run too.

Q: What’s it like running a business with your wife?

It’s something we’re really proud of.

There’s a shared sense of purpose in what we’re building together. It’s been fantastic to see our complementary skillsets come together so quickly and deliver excellent client experiences. I feel very fortunate to be able to do this alongside my wife- a literal dream come true!

Quickfire round…

  • Coffee or tea? → Coffee ☕ My good friend introduced me to it when I was 30 and that was the first time I’d tried it.
  • Favourite holiday destination (or dream trip)? Queenstown, New Zealand. Sara and I went there for our first holiday together and it has a very special place in our hearts.
  • Most used app on your phone? It would have to be all the sporting apps to check the latest scores across all the codes. I am a big sports fan.
  • Sweet or savoury? Savoury for sure.

Q: What does “In your corner. Always.” mean to you in practice?

It means being there for clients through all the stages—not just when things are easy.

Whether it’s big life decisions, market uncertainty, or unexpected challenges, it’s about having someone you trust to guide you and support you along the way. I am fortunate to have pretty much seen it all in my 20+ years. I can draw on those many experiences to support someone going through it for the first time. Longevity in an industry is incredibly valuable.

Q: If someone is thinking about seeking financial advice, what would you say to them?

Just start the conversation, book the appointment, reach out. You don’t need to have everything sorted out before you speak to an adviser. A good adviser will help you work through where you’re at and what your options are.

Our philosophy is personal

At the heart of Moore Financial Advice is a simple idea—advice should be personal, trusted, and built around you.

For Tim, that’s not just a philosophy—it’s the reason the business exists.
